Calculate Biological Age and Maturity in Seconds

Enter a player's standing height, sitting height, weight, date of birth, and parents' heights — and the platform calculates their biological age, maturity offset (years from Peak Height Velocity), predicted adult height, and %PAH. The Mirwald equation and Khamis-Roche method power the science. Coaches see the results instantly.

  • Mirwald equation for Peak Height Velocity (PHV) calculation
  • Khamis-Roche method for predicted adult height
  • Biological age and bio-age difference from chronological age
  • %PAH — percentage of predicted adult height achieved
  • Supports both metric (cm/kg) and imperial (ft/in/st) units
  • Separate calculations for male and female athletes

Three Stages That Change Everything

Every youth player falls into one of three maturity categories — and each category demands a fundamentally different approach to training, load management, and injury prevention. The platform classifies players automatically and makes maturity status visible across every screen, so no staff member makes a decision without this critical context.

  • Pre-PHV (offset < -1): Not yet at peak growth — focus on skill development, coordination, and fun
  • Circa-PHV (offset -1 to +1): At or near peak growth — highest injury risk, reduced load, careful monitoring
  • Post-PHV (offset > +1): Past peak growth — can handle increasing physical demands progressively
  • Maturity badge visible on player profiles, dashboards, and injury screens
  • Colour-coded: Blue (Pre), Amber (Circa), Green (Post)
Maturity Categories
Pre-PHV
Offset < -1.0
Before peak growth velocity. Focus on technical skills, coordination, movement literacy. Low injury risk from growth.

Circa-PHV
Offset -1.0 to +1.0
At or near peak growth. Highest injury risk period. Reduce high-intensity volume, extend warm-ups, monitor closely.
Peak injury risk phase — elevated soft tissue vulnerability

Post-PHV
Offset > +1.0
Past peak growth. Can progressively increase physical demands. Focus on strength, power, and match intensity.

AI Maturity Intelligence

AI That Protects Growing Athletes

The Performance Centre's AI combines maturity data with GPS workload, wellness surveys, injury history, and training intensity to generate real-time risk assessments and training recommendations. Rapid growth is detected automatically. Position-specific guidance adapts based on whether a player is a goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, or forward — and where they are in their growth journey.

  • Rapid growth detection — flags players growing >6 cm/year
  • AI combines maturity + workload + wellness for risk scoring
  • Position-specific recommendations by maturity stage
  • Focus areas, load limits, areas to avoid, and injury risks per position
  • Automatic RTP protocol adjustments for Circa-PHV players
  • Growth velocity trends inform long-term development planning
AI Maturity Recommendations
J. Campbell · Midfielder · Age 14.2 · Circa-PHV · Growth: 7.2 cm/yr
Rapid growth detected — elevated injury risk

Growing at 7.2 cm/year (threshold: 6 cm/yr). Osgood-Schlatter and Sever's disease risk elevated. Reduce plyometric and high-impact drills by 40%.

Midfielder — Circa-PHV training focus

Focus: Technical passing, decision-making, positioning. Avoid: Max sprints, heavy resistance, excessive heading. Load: 70-80% of normal volume.

RTP protocol: Extended timelines active

If injured, minimum 48 hours between phases (vs 24h standard). Exercise intensity limited to 75-80%. Maturity status recorded at time of any injury.

Development note: Patience period

Temporary performance plateau is normal during rapid growth. Maintain technical focus and reassess physical metrics post-growth phase.

Growth Tracking

Track Every Measurement, See the Full Trajectory

Each bio-banding assessment is saved as a measurement in the player's history. Over time, interactive charts show the full growth trajectory — height over time, growth velocity (cm/year), and %PAH progression. Coaches can see exactly where a player has been, where they are now, and where they're heading.

  • Multiple measurement records per player over the season
  • Height over time chart with maturity category markers
  • Growth velocity chart showing cm/year rate
  • %PAH progression toward predicted adult height
  • Tooltips show maturity category at each measurement point

Maturity Data That Flows Everywhere

Bio-banding isn't a standalone tool — it influences decisions across the entire platform. Training load recommendations, injury recovery timelines, nutrition targets, scouting assessments, and player development planning all factor in maturity status. When a player is Circa-PHV, the whole system knows.

  • Training plans: load recommendations adjusted by maturity
  • Injury RTP: 48h minimum between phases for Circa-PHV
  • Nutrition: growth-phase players may need adjusted calorie targets
  • Scouting: maturity data informs youth recruitment assessments
  • IDPs: maturity context shapes development pathway decisions
  • Wellness: growth-related fatigue factored into readiness assessments

Why Bio-Banding Matters

In a squad of 14-year-olds, biological maturity can vary by up to 3 years. A player who looks physically behind may simply be Pre-PHV — their growth spurt hasn't started yet. Without bio-banding data, clubs risk losing talented late developers and overloading early maturers. The Performance Centre ensures every player is developed according to their biology, not just their birthday.

Protect Growing Athletes

Circa-PHV players face 2-3x higher soft tissue injury risk. Bio-banding ensures they're managed safely.

Retain Late Developers

Don't release talented Pre-PHV players who haven't grown yet. Track their trajectory and keep them in the programme.

Fair Assessment

Judge players on skill and potential relative to maturity, not raw physical output against more developed peers.

Long-Term Development

Plan development pathways based on predicted growth curves, not short-term physical advantages.

Duty of Care

Demonstrate evidence-based player welfare practices to parents, governing bodies, and safeguarding officers.

Competitive Advantage

Clubs using bio-banding develop more players through their academy by avoiding preventable injuries and premature releases.
